FOUNDATION FOR GENETIC TECHNOLOGY

The Foundation for Genetic Technology provides grants, scholarships and awards for AGT members funded by the following corporate sponsors:

         Outstanding Technologist Grant ($500), sponsored by Applied Imaging

         Barbara J. Kaplan Scholarship for undergraduates ($1,500), sponsored by Invitrogen

         AGT Student Research Award ($1,500), sponsored by Vysis, Inc.

         New Horizons Award ($750), for newly certified technologists , sponsored by Rainbow Scientific, Inc.

         EXCEL Award ($500), for student members of AGT, sponsored by Cytocell Limited

         Best Poster Award ($300), sponsored by Carl Zeiss, Inc.

         Best Platform Presentation ($500), sponsored by Genzyme Genetics

         Genome Award ($500), sponsored by Quest Diagnostics

         Best Exhibitor Booth Award sponsored by the FGT

         The Joseph Waurin Excellence in Education Award sponsored by Jim Waurin 

Through public and corporate donations, the Foundation has made grants of the 1995 and 2005 ISCN nomenclature book and the AGT Cytogenetic Laboratory Manual to the active cytogenetic programs in Canada and the United States and Cuba and is working on new grants to educational institutions with programs in genetic technology. The Foundation also sponsors review workshops for technologists in cytogenetics and molecular biology and has prepared the Cytogenetic Study Guide and the Molecular Study Guide for those technological disciplines.

The Awards and Scholarships Committee is responsible for awards and scholarships for undergraduate students. The Grants Committee is responsible for grants to graduate students and educational institutions as well as those grants designated to the Foundation.  Recipients of awards, scholarships and grants must be AGT members.
