PURPOSE: To acknowledge and honor outstanding technologists in cytogenetics and molecular genetic technology. This award program contributes to the growth of genetic technology as a profession by recognizing individuals with superior professional commitment.
ELIGIBILITY:
- The applicant must be a member of the Association of Genetic Technologists.
- Must have at least four years of experience in a cytogenetics or molecular genetics laboratory.
- Must be NCA certified (include a copy of current certification card).
DOCUMENTATION:
A short abstract of particular genetic interest to you, or proof of an award or grant, or a short essay detailing your contribution to the field of cytogenetics/molecular genetics, or to your particular laboratory.
NO FAXES WILL BE ACCEPTED.
SELECTION CRITERIA:
1. Quality of abstract, essay, award or grant.
2. Outstanding professional performance (i.e. published work to include poster or meeting abstracts, journal articles, company awards, FGT or AGT recognition by award or grant).
3. Evidence of outstanding contribution to the profession of cytogenetics or diagnostic molecular genetics.
4. Initiative.
AWARD:
- The award will be granted annually as determined by the Board of Directors of the Foundation for Genetic Technology, based on available funds, to the nominee who meets the criteria of the award.
- The Foundation for Genetic Technology Genome Award consists of $500.00 to help pay meeting expenses, including registration, for the AGT Annual Meeting.
- Selection of award recipients will be made by a Panel of Reviewers
- Decisions made by the Panel of Reviewers will be final and deliberations or decisions will not be disclosed.
NOTIFICATION:
1. The award recipients will be notified by phone by the Chair of the Awards & Scholarships Committee with a confirmation letter to follow.
2. Nominees not selected will be notified by letter and will be congratulated for having been nominated.
3. The monetary award and certificate will be presented at the Annual Meeting of the Association of Genetic Technologists to the recipient or his/her representative.
